Customer “Service?”

You walk into a restaurant. The kind where you need to place an order at a counter before sitting down. The girl behind the counter is staring at the keys on the cash register like she knows that she should be entering some sort of information into the machine with them, yet she seems confused, and is unable to utter any words… a blank stare is coming from her face as if she just slipped into a black hole and she cannot even see that you are standing there. You are ready to order, and are thinking maybe she should be saying ” hi, can i take your order?” or maybe ” you all set to order?” anything of that nature. But no. She just stares into space as if she forgot she is standing in a place of employment. Awkward… do i just start giving her my order? what if she isn’t ready… i wouldn’t want to confuse her and have to start over.

Where has customer SERVICE gone? (and people wonder why i prefer to shop online)

Seriously. It is like they are just handing out jobs to people walking by on the street. They know nothing of the products they sell, they are not friendly, they are not helpful, they are not very bright and they seem to be everywhere- plaguing our stores / food places with all these morons that would rather be home combing their hair or watching american idol. You know who i am talking about.

If you have a job, take some pride in it. I don’t care what it is. Be the best fry-o-later operator you can… make it your mission, center those pickles perfectly on the burger… go out on a limb and ask if i would like anything else… Research the products your company sells… Maybe smile and pretend to be happy if you have to.

Otherwise, what else do you have to live for? You have a shitty job. You aren’t much good in school. Probably because you were neglected as a child. Maybe you are just too lazy to do something for yourself- so you have to settle for whatever place will hire you. Then you complain about how bad your job sucks. And to top it all off, you are affecting the people that come in contact with you and have to order or rely on you for some form of SERVICE. People who have real jobs. People who don’t want attitude from a punk ass like you who seems like they are too good to even acknowledge that they have a task to perform. What? Should you just get money handed to you? Are you entitled to a free paycheck? Where are you people coming from? Learn something!

Don’t even bother putting a tip jar out in front of you if you can’t even crack a smile or say good morning.

As a competent person who’s had service jobs, I see your point. There are those who do not strive to improve, and yet complain about their situation. I’ve worked with many who fall into that category. However, as a competent person who’s had service jobs, the number of customers that forgot I was a living, breathing person was quite disheartening at times.

… i know that people tend to forget that they aren’t the only thing alive on this planet. and for that i do feel for all the people who have to deal with it the other way around. (maybe i should write a post about the morons who have no respect for the people in the service industry)… and how it may affect the people in it… that may be part of the issue right there… thanks for stopping by and opening up the new thought…

i’m with you on this. i’m a brit living in poland and here they actively discourage you from returning to the shop by making it very clear that you are an annoyance to them. will they ever recover from the communist days? i don’t know but perhaps i should try harder at learning polish so i can give them some ear ache about it.
